On the Hogwarts Express

Thursday I am hopping the bus to Portland to see the last Harry Potter movie with my friend Emma! I have made a costume. For your amusement here are some pictures. I don't have a full-length mirror so bear with the classy towels in the background ...:

I kept trying to get the skirt but the mirror was too high. It's made from a fairly heavy fabric - denim-ish, though light for denim - and it's charcoal gray. I made it this afternoon. Pleated, an inch or two above the knee, with a narrow black velvet ribbon around the top. The shirt is just a white shirt.

The cloak! I also made it myself, from scratch. Well. I made use of an old Halloween costume that was a rectangle of fabric with a hole cut in the middle; this has rather more flair, as I pleated it at the top to create a hood/collar and attached a black velvet tie.

Another attempt at a more comprehensive picture. As you can see, the cloak hangs asymmetrically.

Finally, a fuller shot. As you can see, I am a Ravenclaw. I'm going to attempt to make a badge tomorrow.

I've never been to a midnight showing before, nor dressed up for a movie. Sort of exciting.
